Luna: Fantasy Named Happiness (2022 EP)

Luna: Fantasy Named Happiness is an EP album by SamSeb Kierkegaard, featuring fictional characters SamSeb Kierkegaard created, which include: the boy from the city of Reality, Luna Moonlight, and Uncertainty the Monster. It tells the story of the boy wishing to escape and avoid all the tragic phenomena happening around him, and he discovers a standalone door that shines in the dark alone, which eventually leads him to a city named Dreams and Happiness. He is chased by a monster named Uncertainty, whose eyes are blinded by the brilliant magnificence of our heroine - Luna Moonlight. Luna Moonlight believes that by saving the boy from Uncertainty, he would go back to Reality. However, the boy becomes even more convinced that he belongs in Dreams and Happiness, and sees Luna Moonlight as his destined love. Luna Moonlight disappears at the blink of an eye, which brings Uncertainty back to Dreams and Happiness. Uncertainty destroys what was once alluringly beautiful to ashes, and its glory is never to be seen again. The boy convinces himself that Luna Moonlight must be fake and so must the city of Dreams and Happiness, which is now being burnt to ashes, because he is supposed to be happy since he’s no longer in the tragic city of Reality. The only logical answer to this incompatible phenomenon happening is that they are all fake.

As the boy walks past the streets without end, he begins to question everything, inviting the sleep to forget about all the ever-present, humdrum repetition of tragedies in sight. He imagines himself to be looking at a girl desired so much and to be holding her hand, embracing the glorious magnificence of her presence. Then the boy realises that nothing happened and ends up screaming.

Eventually, the boy learns that the city of Dreams and Happiness does not actually exist, neither Uncertainty nor Luna Moonlight. They are only there to let the boy know that he shouldn't run away from things if he truly wants to progress in life. Working on yourself to fight the demons you face every day is what brings you Dreams and Happiness in the truest sense.

"The song 'The Myth of Sisyphus' is heartfelt and graceful. The dreamy shoegaze sound fills the whole composition with a beautiful melody that dissolves into a thick guitar fuzz. The vocals are gentle and sweet with grace and deep immersion in feelings."

"Collecting past Luna-saga singles and a new, final one, ‘Luna: Fantasy Named Happiness’ navigates different sides of the same medal, at times insisting on a fast-paced, gritty epicness, at others melting the vibe into an emotional wall of frequencies, alluring dream-pop, shoegaze and everything in between."

"It tells the story of a man climbing a mountain, this is difficult enough right? but this man is pushing a boulder. He falls several times and starts again from the start. In the most basic of explanations, this is the story of failure, fight, desire, and strength. All of these qualities are addressed in the lyrics of this track. Through his EP, #SamSebKierkegaard brings existential philosophy to fictional characters in a land that highlights the worlds of Soren Kierkegaard and Tim Burton."

Luna: Dependent Personality Disorder (2022 single)

The boy enters a never-ending paradoxical loop of returning back to the bridge under the same dystopian red sky.

He's always wanted to escape the city of Reality, since he’s never had any good memories of living there. Being hated by the people he loves, being hated in the city that he grew up in. It’s the worst experience to go through. Luna Moonlight previously encouraged him to go back to Reality, for he can’t just run away from things. He needs to face them and overcome the problems, by looking into his personal inadequacies. Alas, the boy convinces himself that Luna Moonlight must be fake and so must the city of Dreams and Happiness be which is now being burnt to ashes, because he is supposed to be happy since he’s no longer in the tragic city of Reality.

"There’s something distinctly unique about Kierkegaard. In the same way that Bowie (who we can hear is a very clear influence on Kierkegaard) was one who followed his own path, Kierkegaard is someone who is producing music that is distinctly Kierkegaard. The music is eccentric art rock. It is unique and quirky and stands firmly in the self belief of a true artist following their own path."

Luna: Luna Moonlight (2022 single)

Luna: Luna Moonlight’ is the second chapter of the EP project- Luna: A Fantasy Named Happiness involving the boy, Luna Moonlight and Uncertainty the Monster. Having escaped the city of Reality, the boy believes that he belongs in the city of Dream and Happiness which in fact actually does not exist. Our heroine Luna Moonlight, who appeared to save the boy and has now disappeared, encourages him to leave the city, to which the boy does not listen. The song depicts the imagery of two conflicting innermost thoughts of facing reality for progression and pursuing delusional hedonism. The boy is haunted by Uncertainty and spoken to by Luna Moonlight which is the manifestation of his unconscious realisation that he needs to face reality. The boy is in constant denial and convinces himself that he belongs in the city of Dreams and Happiness and wants to live forever with Luna who doesn't exist in reality.

"With howling lead guitars and elegant vocals, this new track is a shining example of a truly anthemic track. The beautifully crafted lyricism takes story telling to its rightful conclusion and paints illustrative portraits of dark mysterious heroines and unimaginable monsters. The chorus is the right kind of abrasive, taking you from the pleasant planes of the verse to the dark twisted world of the next chapter of the story."

Luna: The Invisible Irony (2021 single)

Luna: The Invisible Irony is the first chapter of the EP project- Luna: A Fantasy Named Happiness. It is based on the story SamSeb Kierkegaard created, involving the boy who wants to escape the city of Reality to the city of Dream and Happiness, being chased by Uncertainty the Monster, and the girl who appeared under the moonlight and saves the boy from Uncertainty in the city of Dream and Happiness.

SamSeb Kierkegaard explains that

“The song tells you allegorically the imagery of people in exodus of colourless reality whilst being in pursuit of happiness and dreams, but they are still haunted by uncertainty which is the manifestation of their unconscious realization that they need to face reality."

SamSeb Kierkegaard wanted the song to sound dreamy but with the sensation that you are being chased by something. He took inspirations from My Chemical Romance for their post-hardcore elements and David Bowie for his imaginative approach in lyrics and songwriting.

"Opening with a spirited drum solo, the song Luna: The Invisible Irony is an immediate reminder of the emo scene. Further, the cinematic soundscapes are plenty — transporting you to the alternate fantasy world. The evils of uncertainty attack our hero in this parallel universe." (Link: sinusoidalmusic review)

"Between the allure of the mainstream and the Hardrock sound that defines a solid genre, SamSeb makes good use of a universally relatable sound and lyrics. There is no escape, yet the jaded “feels” of the song is driving the narrative forward, making it a unique, unforgettable track altogether. It speaks directly to the listener no matter what the demon they are currently fighting is with its poignant lyrics, hard riffs, and blasting drums."

Forgotten Love (2021 single)

Forgotten Love was recorded in the year 2021, originally written by Norwegian artist AURORA. Working with Lachlan Smith from Better Tone Studios, SamSeb Kierkegaard took an experimental approach, adding much harsher post hardcore rock elements to the orignal song. This new approach, not only greatly altered the genre, but also effectively reflected AURORA's bittersweet lyrics on the musical elements that remind you of moments of battling constant anxieties and heartbreaking sentimentality.

Metamorphosis (2020 single)

Metamorphosis was recorded in the year 2020. The song contains a psychedelic element starting with an acoustic guitar riff. SamSeb Kierkegaard depicts the imagery of a man running towards his future and never looking back. He uses the analogy of a caterpillar with potentials eventually becoming and actualising into a butterfly.
